About FAEDS

The oldest Florida professional association dedicated to the advancement of educational technology.

The Florida Association of Educational Data Systems was founded in 1964, when the state’s school districts were putting their first student records onto punched cards and magnetic tape. The problems were new, nobody had solved them before, and the people doing the work needed somewhere to compare notes.

That is still what the association is for. Our members are the technology directors, data managers, student information system administrators and institutional researchers who keep Florida’s K-20 education data moving — across 67 school districts, 28 state colleges, the state university system and the Department of Education.

The CoSN Council of Florida

FAEDS is the CoSN Council of Florida, the state chapter of the Consortium for School Networking. CoSN is the national professional association for school system technology leaders, and the chapter connects Florida’s districts to that wider network — its certification programs, its research, and its work on the policy questions that reach every district sooner or later.

Vision

Transformational leaders in educational technology.

Mission

FAEDS empowers Florida K-20 educational leaders to leverage innovative information and learning technologies to drive institutional efficiencies and student success.

Membership

Membership is open to anyone with an interest in the use of technology in education. Members come from every level of Florida education, along with the companies that build the systems those institutions run on. Annual dues are included in registration for the annual conference.

The logo over the years

The association has redrawn its logo every few years since the 1960s. These are the ones the archive still holds — palm trees, satellite dishes and all.
